BenQ GL2780 has a mode of “simulated e-book”

The electronic ink screens offer greater comfort when reading texts with excellent contrast even in very bright environments with minimal energy consumption since they only use electricity when the pixels change state.

However, its main drawbacks, such as the high response time and the terrible colorimetry, mean that they are relegated to portable devices such as electronic books. Hence, surprise BenQ’s proposal to incorporate a mode “simulated e-book” in its new range of monitors.

The model in particular is the GL2780 , with 27 inches, panel TN and resolution 1920 x 1080 that offers technical specifications of medium-low range but that includes a special way to read texts that tries to imitate the books with electronic ink.

Its native contrast of 1000: 1 and brightness of 300 nits are automatically adjusted in this mode to highlight the typefaces while passing the screen to black and white to improve the readability of the texts. The problem is that being a conventional LCD panel still has backlighting, so I do not know to what extent an effective “electronic ink” effect will be achieved.

It also has flicker-free technology and the Brightness Intelligence Technology (BITech.) System that monitors ambient light and adjusts the brightness of the screen to the appropriate levels to make our experience more enjoyable. As for the refresh rate, it reaches 75 Hz with a response time of 1 ms (GtG).

The connectivity is served by a D-sub port to maintain compatibility with older computers, another DVI , an HDMI 1.4 type and a DisplayPort .

The new monitor BenQ GL2780 will reach the distributors on a date yet to be specified and for a price of 180 dollars .
