HP OMEN X 2S, this gaming notebook has a secondary touch screen above the keyboard

In the world of gaming laptops, the main aspect in which they seek to improve the manufacturers to continue to differentiate themselves is to provide more power in the equipment. For example betting on the 240 Hz on the screens as ASUS does with its RoG range . HP however has found another feature to highlight: the double screen .

HP Omen X 2S is the new notebook from the manufacturer of computers and electronic devices in general. A laptop designed for gaming that, in addition to having an Intel Core 9th generation processor or NVIDIA GeForce RTX ™ 2080, comes with a second screen above the keyboard . It is not as risky as a laptop that is all flexible screen like the last of Lenovo . It is rather a mix between the Touch Bar of Apple’s MacBook Pro and the trackpad / screen of ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 .

Before going into detail with the secondary screen of the HP OMEN X 2S, let’s see its main screen. It is a 15’6 inch panel with a resolution of 1080p to 144 Hz in the basic model. If we choose the higher the resolution becomes 4K UHD with 60 Hz .

To move this equipment we found an Intel Core-i9 eight-core processor , with overclocking of 5 GHz. As for the graphic part it has mounted an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q Design or an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q Design. It brings up to 32 GB of RAM and storage by SSD from 256 GB to 2 TB. As far as connectivity is concerned, it brings three USB-A ports, one USB-C, Gigabit Ethernet or connectors for microphone and audio output among others.

HP also highlights the fine and elegant design of the OMEN X 2S from HP, within what can be considered as fine and elegant a portable gaming . Thin side frames, a weight of 2.35 kilograms, 2 cm thick , RGB backlit keyboard and a side position of the trackpad to not take up extra space. The laptop has easy opening to access the SSD and RAM if you want to expand.

Six inches touch next to the keyboard

The second screen of the HP OMEN X 2S is smaller than the main screen. Its exact size is a 5.98-inch IPS panel with considerable 1080p resolution. The panel is tactile and the glass that covers it goes from one side to the other completely. It has multi-touch support .

It is a secondary screen to perform different actions while playing for example full screen. It also serves to control aspects in the background or perform contextual actions. For example, you can show the music player, show the CPU usage of the computer or even use it to show videogame interfaces such as a map.

According to HP told Engadget , they thought of including a second screen because many professional and amateur players always have the phone next to them to use as a second screen while playing. To see a Twitch chat for example or to have a conversation with the game team.

Putting a six-inch screen where the keyboard should theoretically go means that you must move this below. Consequently, where to place the trackpad? Unlike ASUS that joined trackpad and monitor in a single space, HP has wanted to continue dedicating trackpad to the only functionality of moving the cursor. That’s why the trackpad is now on the right side , where the numeric keypad usually goes. It is not the most suitable option for a left-hander, for example.

Versions and prices of the OMEN X 2S

The HP OMEN X 2S is available in different versions where the notebook’s internal specifications vary. We find a single size and color, but the screen can be 1080 or 4K. The same happens with the RAM that starts from the 16 GB or the storage that does it from the 256 GB. The starting price starts at 2,100 dollars for the US market. It will be available from June.
