tado v3 +, analysis

Now that the summer heat tightens (at least in the northern hemisphere), having a good system to have the house at an adequate temperature becomes an option and, for some almost, an obligation. Portable air conditioning systems , conventional air conditioners, humidifiers and air conditioning systems with connection to home gain weight among the options market .

In fact, the connected air conditioners become an interesting purchase option if we want to get a new device, but what if we already have ahome air conditioning system ? Can’t we stop being an isolated smart home device ? A question with an easy answer: yes, and thanks to different options among which is the device that I have been testing for a few days: the tado V3 + or Smart AC Control V3 + .

It is an intelligent thermostat that allows you to control the air conditioning at home, either by means of air conditioning or by interacting with the heating. A system that allows us to ignore turning on and off, in this case the air, as well as modifying the temperature so that it is to our liking.

For this, an intelligent thermostat, like the one in question, makes use of a series of algorithms that allow us to enjoy the highest level of comfort with the least possible expense . We optimize the use and at the same time save on the electricity bill by avoiding constant starts and stops so harmful, for the device and for our pocket.

Appearance and design

The tado V3 + Smart thermostat offers a careful design. A quadrangular shaped device that is located near the air conditioning that we want to control or at least, in the room or room in which it is located and always oriented towards the split .

A neat and clean appearance both on and off that is only affected by the presence of the connection cable to the electrical outlet. And it is that on the one hand we have to have a plug nearby , which partially limits the options when integrating it into the home.

In my case, to avoid installations on the wall (it can be glued) I have chosen to have it plugged in a place where it bothered as little as possible and at the same time allowed comfortable access to the screen to see the information it offers. Under the same hide two tactile buttons to make the appropriate adjustments at any time.

For the rest, the device, of white color and a minimum weight, has a pleasant touch thanks to the quality plastic that it seems to use. Under that appearance, an integrated white LED screen is hidden that is responsible for providing the necessary information at all times.

The advantage of this model is that it is not necessary to install any bridge as it did with other models of the tado brand.

Start and configuration

To use the tado ° V3 + (Smart AC Control V3 +) the app that we can find for iPhone , iPad and Android devices is key . Through it we will carry out the synchronization process thanks to the different steps in which it guides us at all times.

For the tests I used an iPad Pro and an iPhone XS as a base and the first step, after downloading and installing the app, goes through marking the device we are going to use and registering it . The process can not be easier because to carry it out, simply scan the QR code located in the rear area with the camera of the mobile or tablet.

After updating the firmware the app asks us for information about the remote control of our air in order to be able to pair it. Type of control screen, air brand and model , the application guides us at all times. The only step we have to take is to point the remote control at the thermostat and press the power button to detect it.

The interface is clear and does not offer any difficulty to synchronize the tado V3 + with our smartphone through the application.

Within the configuration process there is an interesting section that we can access within the “Settings” in the app. In the space called “Air Conditioning” in the left column we will see how the system allows us to choose between two control modes: thermostatic and non-thermostatic .
